Started off with a 5000 on my K4 frame when they came out and ran it that way for a couple years, just went lidless most of the time as we do a lot of day hunts hunting from a basecamp or quick overnighters; that was fine as the 5000 compresses way down.
Enter the 2200, looked like the perfect option for archery elk here in North Idaho, where we stay super mobile on road systems with the occasional over nighter here and there. I also love that it has the integrated lid and the scope pockets still.
I do wish however that it still had the full blown water bladder pocket for wet gear, more places to attach the stash pockets, and some kind of front stretch pocket. I’d take off a half star for that if I could.
I’ve had this pack for about 2 years and have used it for everything from light and fast spring bear hunts to archery elk to chasing winter wolves. It’s a perfect setup for day hunts through the fall; add the lid and you can easily squeeze a night or two out of it with the right gear or stretch it for true winter conditions.
I would never own just this pack! But if you already have a 5000 or bigger pack and want to get a more streamlined bag for day hunts and lighter work, this is the pack to get, no doubt.
