Real World Reviews

Colton Heward

After 60 days of using and abusing the K4 Prototype last fall, I can confidently say that it is the most comfortable, complete, and capable hunting pack that I have ever owned. It was clearly created for serious hunters, by serious hunters.

The new K4 is the best pack I have used to date. I used a K4 Prototype on 5 big game hunts this past fall and could tell that it was strategically built for comfort and is tough enough to withstand the most extreme hunting and backpacking adventures.

I love the simplicity of the K4! It has everything you need, and nothing you don’t! After testing the K4 Prototype last year, I was thrilled with the new system to detach the bag from the frame. And the new hipbelt design provides a noticeable increase in comfort.

Great Day Pack

I bought this as a smaller, more streamlined option for day trips, as compared to the 3600 I was using. Extremely happy with it. Has organization that is better suited for day trip needs and seems to fit a little more streamlined than the 3600. Enough room for puffy/cold gear and a little stove, and optics. Glad I purchased this back for day hunts.

2200 Bag: almost perfect

This bag is almost perfect. After using a k3 3200 for a few years without a lid for both western hunts and in the east for whitetail, I decided to jump into a smaller pack for UL overnighters and day trips. The k4 2200 pocket layout and size is very well though out, and with a few small changes could be perfect. I think this is the closest thing to a "perfect" bag for the majority of my uses, but the k3 3200/k4 3600 have a few features I miss that may make me switch back to a larger bag.

The K4 frame is great, absolutely no complaints there.

The side pockets and lid pocket are fantastic for storing quick access gear that I would have had to go digging for in the wand pockets of my K3. I do sometimes miss the functionality of the k3 wand pocket. Even with the addition of these new zippered pockets, I seem to fill the top and side pockets quickly with items that I would have previously stored in my water bottle pockets- more on that later.

The Horseshoe zipper makes things very easy to access, and I like the additional interior stow pocket on the flap for added security and organization. The placement of the two front compression straps are genius, allowing total access to the lid pocket, and being able to open the bag like a traditional top-loader without undoing any straps.

My criticisms:
First, and most importantly are the bottle pockets. PLEASE give us the oversized bottle pockets like are present on the rest of your bags. I understand the function of this bag is to be streamlined, but the oversized bottle pockets present on the larger packs lay totally flat when not in use. I knew prior to purchasing that the bottle pockets on the 2200 were smaller, but had hoped they would be more functional than they are. The smaller pockets on these bags are not sufficient for even a normal sized Nalgene without risking it slipping out whenever I bend over, and forget using a silo or a smartwater bottle (my preference). I miss my real side pockets so much so that I may end up getting the 3600 bag instead, even though the 2200 fits my needs better.

I also think that the side zipper pockets could use a little more dedicated room to expand outwards (like 1/2" even), but I understand this may not really work with the internally pleated spotting scope pockets. This isn't a big deal however.

My ideal Pack?
Exo 2400. Same pack, but give me 100ci additional space in each side pocket and real water bottle pockets. Even better, give me a K3 style wand pocket on the left side of the pack, and the existing zippered spotting scope pocket on the right.

All that being said, I will ship my pack back tomorrow if I can get upgraded side pockets. :D

Thanks to the EXO crew for making a sweet pack.

First pack

Purchased k4 2200 for a Coues deer hunt in Arizona. As a first time backpack hunter had lots of questions. Entire experience with Exo was great. They answered all my questions, gave me some good advice, and sincerely cared about my hunt and their product. Pack performed flawlessly. I'm buying another one for my son for an upcoming Mule deer hunt in Montana. Keep up the good work.

Great fitting pack.

The K4 is a great pack. I never knew how a properly fitted pack could feel. Made of quality material. I’ve recommended this pack to all of my hunting buddies.

K4 2200 pack

I’ve owned several packs from other companies. After looking at Exo for quite some time, I decided to try it. I am amazed how light this pack is. The quality is second to none and the organizational ability is great. It is by far the most comfortable framed pack I’ve worn. The add on items make sense and feel like an integral part of the pack. I have found my last pack.
